Weekly News From the Nurse 06 September 2024
September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month and currently1 in 5 American children have obesity. There is ongoing research looking into the many factors that create this complex disease to include genetics, physical activity, and sleep routines. Children with Obesity are at a higher rate of developing asthma, sleep apnea, bone and joint problems, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and other heart conditions.
As a family, you can work together to combat childhood obesity by modeling healthy eating patterns, physically moving more as a family, setting consistent sleep routines, reducing screen time, and encouraging hydration with water.
