W.T. Sampson ES/HS recently celebrated a vibrant and engaging Read Across America Week, filled with activities that brought joy and excitement to students and staff alike. The week was a resounding success, thanks to the enthusiastic participation of students and the dedicated efforts of Mrs. Mendiola, the School Liaison Officer Mr. Saraceni, the PTSO, and numerous volunteer readers.
Read Under the Clouds Day kicked off the festivities, with students gathering outside to enjoy their favorite books under the open sky. The pleasant weather and the serene environment made it a perfect day for reading, and students were seen engrossed in their stories, sharing their favorite parts with friends.
Read Under the Stars. This event allowed students to read in the star lab, simulating the night sky. The atmosphere was enchanting, and the students' enthusiasm was palpable as they delved into their books, creating a memorable experience for all.
Midweek, the school was transformed into a literary wonderland for Dress as a Book Character Day. Students and staff alike donned costumes of their favorite book characters, bringing beloved stories to life.Â
The fun continued with the Word of the Day Vocabulary Parade, where students showcased their creativity by dressing up as vocabulary words. This parade not only highlighted the importance of expanding one's vocabulary but also encouraged students to think outside the box and express themselves in unique ways.
The week culminated in a grand ceremony that celebrated the collective efforts and achievements of everyone involved. The ceremony was highlighted with students getting to wrap Principal Arizmendi with toilet paper, spray silly string and shaving cream, and finally throw whip cream pies in his face. All the students enjoyed watching this. It was a fitting end to a week that truly embodied the spirit of Read Across America.
This event would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of Mrs. Mendiola, the School Liaison Officer, the PTSO, and the many volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to ensure its success. Their commitment to fostering a love for reading and creating a supportive community for students was evident in every aspect of the week.
Read Across America Week at W.T. Sampson ES/HS was a testament to the power of the community and the joy of reading. It left a lasting impression on students, inspiring them to continue their literary journeys and cherish the magic of books.
