Meet the Crew
Sra. Hongell
What grade/subject are you teaching this year? Spanish
Why did you choose to come to W T Sampson? I'm a Spanish teacher and thought it'd be so cool to teach in Cuba. I really didn't know much about DoDEA or WTS, but took a HUGE leap of faith!
Please share your hobbies or interests. By living here, I definitely learned that I'm an island girl for sure! Always feel at home in, on, around, next to or under the water. I find peace through diving into the deep blue and swimming or just floating with friends. Relaxing by the shore is where I reset from the day or week's stress. I love to boat and got my Captain's license within the first 2 weeks of living here. I'm about to start my Advanced Open Water certification for diving. All in all...life's better when it's by the water.
What is your best memory of middle or high school? Definitely being involved in things!! I was an athlete...I played hockey and softball all through high school and was on a traveling softball team. I swam competitively through middle school. So from those early morning practices, to afternoon hustles to the adrenaline of game days, it was all about pushing myself, bonding with my teammates, and celebrating our wins together. Being part of a team and the bonds it creates and that feeling when you give it your all—it’s something I’ll never forget.Â
I was also a singer. I performed in all of our School Productions...and our productions were huge and always a sellout. So when I got to college, singing was something that helped pay the tuition. I've sung the National Anthem at our college's homecoming football games my junior and senior years, sang for President Bush in the White House, and performed in St. Patrick's Cathedral and all over. Those moments on stage, feeling the energy of the audience and the thrill of performing, are memories I’ll always hold onto.Â
Both of those interests started in school and I'll always carry those experiences and amazing memories with me!
