W.T. Sampson Elementary High School students Turn Saturday Into Day of Service
Day of Service
Students at W.T. Sampson Elementary High School, Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, turned a Saturday into a day of community service, cleaning up a local beach and carrying a flag to honor prisoners of war and those missing in action.
On Sept. 20, members of the school's National Honor Society (NHS), National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), and middle school AVID classes teamed up with base organizations for the effort. The morning kicked off with a beach cleanup at Ferry Landing, organized with the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Community Library.

In the afternoon, the group shifted to a remembrance run for POW/MIA Recognition Day, hosted by the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12225. Students took turns carrying the POW/MIA flag around a base track for two hours, aiming to raise funds to help bring missing service members home. They ended with a collective final lap as a symbol of solidarity.
